I am building a REST API framework on top of undertow core to support
design driven implementation from Open API (Swagger) specifications for
security and validation during runtime. From swagger-codegen result, I
found that undertow doesn't support http method PATCH. Is there a reason it
is not supported? or any workaround? Thanks.

Undertow as server supports all http methods.
It is up to handlers in handler chain that might choose not to support some
methods.
I would look into your handler chain configuration to see which one is not
handling PATCH properly.

PATCH is based on this file.

As you can see there is no patch method available and I even searched the

Hi Steve Hu,

Most of Undertow built-in Handlers expects a HttpString to identify which
HTTP Method you intent to handle. Indeed, it does not have a PATCH but I do
believe you can easily create your own HttpString with something like the
sample code bellow:

public static final HttpString PATCH = new HttpString("PATCH");

Also, you can create your own handler, if none of available Handlers fit
your needs. It is quite easy... Feel free to e-mail me if you need some
help with it.

I'm working to integrate a legacy SSO system with undertow (Wildfly 10), and this SSO is also used with JBoss 4 and 6.


Its strategy is to share the same JSESSIONID between all the applications running inside all those servers.


In my custom Authentication Mechanism, I retrieve the session id that will be used for this session, but just after invoking SecurityContext#authenticationComplete, a new session is created, which takes me to have two session cookies. I mean, they both are named JSESSIONID.


I could find a way to remove this one created by undertow, but I'm not sure this is the best approach.


What do you suggest me to do is this scenario?

Can you try setting
'io.undertow.servlet.api.DeploymentInfo#changeSessionIdOnLogin' to
false? By default Undertow will generate a new session ID when you
authenticate as a precaution.

curious on why this is not implemented as a built-in method like others.
Also, I have problem to use it if PATCH is not in Methods.java as I am
using swagger-codegen to scaffold the server stubs from swagger
specification the first time.

Here is the code and as you can see they are following the same pattern for
the http method. There might be a good reason that PATCH is not
implemented, but it would be really helpful to add this HttpString into the
Methods class.

indicates that more examples can be found in the deployement guide. But the

version 1.3.0. Is the deployement guide available from another location ?

Dear Undertow devs,

I originally posted the below question on the Wildfly forum and was advised
to do it here instead.

I am using the Undertow EncodingHandler with a Gzip Encoding provider, as
follows (sample code taken from an Undertow unit test):

It works fine for very small response bodies, however, when Undertow starts
to use the Chunked Transfer-Encoding, the Gzip compression is simply
ignored.

My question is basically: how to apply a Gzip encoding (or other
compression) before Undertow starts chunking the response?


Could it be a bug?


Also, and I could not really track it down from the source code, how does
Undertow decide to start chunking the response?

The max-content-size predicate will always return false for chunked
encoding. You need something like 'exists(%{o,Transfer-encoding}) or
max-content-size(5)'.

Thank you for correcting the link. Unfortunately I have already read this
part and it does not help to create my custom authentication mechanism.
When I do what I think is right I have an exception "Caused by: java.util.
ServiceConfigurationError: io.undertow.servlet.ServletExtension: Provider
mypackage.MyServletExtension not a subtype"
I created a thread on stackoverflow describing my problem, can you take a
look and tell me what is wrong ?

First of all, thank you for your suggestion.

Second, sorry for my lack of feedback, I've being away from this task in the last days.


I did as you said, but I've had no success yet.

Setting changeSessionIdOnLogin to false, avoids the first attempt to create a new session, in CachedAuthenticatedSessionHandler class. But just after that, session will be created, and of course, with a new session id.


If I also set cacheable to false, when invoking authenticationComplete, so no session will be created at all. But somehow, the authentication mechanism enters in a loop even with my AuthenticationMechanism returning AUTHENTICATED.


It seems that I am unable to finish my authentication without an instance of HttpSession created, is this expected?


What else could I do?

Can you try setting
'io.undertow.servlet.api.DeploymentInfo#changeSessionIdOnLogin' to
false? By default Undertow will generate a new session ID when you
authenticate as a precaution.

This should do it:

sender.transferFrom(channel, new IoCallback() {

});

Note that this will not close the channel automatically, it must be
done in the callback.

I use a custom ResourceManager to serve a specific file from the classpath. Something like :

We are replacing tomcat connector with undertow in a spring-boot setting, for servlet 3.0 based container. During load performance test, see a possible issue that some request are not dispatched from undertow, the count is very small (~ 0.01%), but highly repeatable.

Example test Setting:

Jmeter 1 client (keep-alive traffic) --> undertow, traffic is on the same client thread, it is a blocking client, so all in-coming request to undertow are sequential. Request sent non-stopping (as fast as possible).

(1) verified that it is not due to network packet, we used tcpdump to trace the missed call that client-side sent the request, and server "ack" the request. But the response is never sent. See below shows when a call is successful vs. unsuccessful"

(3) I am on spring-boot 1.4.1, also tested using 1.3.x same behavior. I also overrides xnio 3.4 vs 3.3.x, also same behavior. Changed configured the following other than default ..
(3.a) Undertow io- 8 threads, task worker 25 core threads, max 64 threads. Server-idle timeout 20 sec, server-no request timeout 20 sec.
(3.b) If I use concurrent jmeter client, same behavior is also observed, the ratio did not worse, actually, it might be slightly better than just single test client.

Please share insights if there is any configuration from my side, or else.

Hi!

As part of our current project (which heavily uses undertow as http server) we need to implement a simple flash policy server.
This server is basically just a simple SocketServer which returns a small XML fragment
(java example code in the first answer here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2569863/trouble-creating-a-java-policy-server-for-a-simple-flash-app <http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2569863/trouble-creating-a-java-policy-server-for-a-simple-flash-app>)

My question is, how can i implement this reusing the undertow infrastructure. Directly access XNIO? What would you suggest?

In general it should not be an issue, as we use direct byte buffer by
default. If you write a large heap buffer directly to a channel though
you can still be hit by it.

Best to write impl of HttpHandler and register it in the chain.
This is really simple to do, especially with that simple serving

Maybe you understood it wrong .. it?s not a http connection. It?s a simple socket connection .. so no handshake no nothing.
Check the example i pasted! I think we are going to use XNIO for that .. not sure if we should reuse the undertow XNIO context or create a new one.

Resteasy is processing a REST request that is to produce a JSON object.  The
generation of the JSON object fails because the users's (class) object is missing
a required annotation.  This programming error causes an IOException to be thrown
by com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectWriter and the response is tagged
as completed in HttpServerExchange.  But the user has also defined a custom
ExceptionMapper<throwable> for Resteasy to use to report any exceptions. Custom
ExceptionMappers in this case are processed after the response has be marked complete.  
Is there any way to re-establish a usable response object so the user's ExceptionMapper can
report the failure to the client?

This sounds like a Resteasy issue. If they still want to send a
response they should not be marking the response as complete.
