Hi all,

as outlined at http://weld.cdi-spec.org/news/2014/09/18/weld-next/ we 
are starting to work on Weld 3.0.

Important changes:
- the master branch now hosts Weld 3 development
- we now require Java 8 for both compilation and runtime.

The release of Weld 3.0.0.Alpha1 is planned for early October with some 
early prototypes. The initial prototype effort is driven by the 
discussion at cdi-dev mailing list 
(https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/cdi-dev) and is tracked by 
this top-level issue: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/WELD-1738

Weld 2.2 remains maintained with on-demand releases. Weld 2.2 is hosted 
in the newly-created 2.2 branch on github.
