Matthias Wessendorf this is somehow true, but there would be no way to tell if the variant id is wrong or there are no installations. Also if we'll say that 404 is alright when there are no installations, it should probably also apply to variants and possibly applications. Which honestly doesnt make much sense, to request list of applications and get 404 right away. What do you think?
