Support for types other than String were actually implemented in the past but, it was decided to not add such support in favour of promoting the usage of none-primitive Java types. But requirements can change, and perhaps this should be discussed again. If such support is added I think it makes sense to add this support all types of request parameters, and not just for path parameters as is implied with the current pull request.
