We investigated work around Appium and decided that it's good choice.
However Thomas Nolan discovered some issues with JavaScript WD.js SDK with Appium. Because of better tooling using Gradle and JUnit we want to recommend into proposal to use JUnit based testing using Appium SDK in Java/Kotlin - AGDROID-706. We are still going to debate it with other QE service team Pavel Sturc.
