It looks like this could be resolved by following the steps mentioned by Jesse Sarnovsky on the mobile mailing thread. It would give us a similar configuration to OSD. However, to do that SSL termination needs to happen on the openshift router as opposed to the LB. This would mean we need to use a valid cert on the router, which we currently don't have.
