I've just tested the latest aerogear-controller-demo version and the issue stills exists:
Steps to reproduce:
1. register a new user test/test
2. Logout
3. Login as john/123
4. Navigate to the restricted admin page
5. Delete the user test
6. Logout
7. Login as john results in null pointer exception
But if you create a new user after the above procedure, this user is able to login.
