This issue is unfortunately mixing multiple concerns together:
1/ Session persistent across tabs - which I agree it defacto standard behavior and should be kept that way
2/ Login fails when user already logged in - which I think is unfortunate decision for REST based backend and I'll raise ML thread here and create new jira if agreed
3/ Stacktraces in console log - there is already AGPUSH-316 to cover that
4/ UI enhancements for login screen which should have separate jira reported by Stefan Miklosovic which UI workflow he would expect and ideally with feedback from Hylke Bons
