In October 2017 a PR 'Load dashboards from disk into the database at regular interval' was merged into Grafana. Link.

This PR means Grafana should be able to scan a directory for dashboards and load them in as they are discovered. Wojciech Trocki suggested we might be able to use this functionality for automated discovery of dashboards. The discussion can be found in this PR.

We should find out if this functionality will meet our needs for auto discovery of dashboards. In addition we should see if there are any drawbacks.
