I would like some input on this from Lucas Holmquist and anyone else. In my opinion, type is not confusing or at least not confusing enough to warrant this change. This would be a major change to the entire library requiring a huge amount of deprecation code that I would like to avoid if possible. If others agree this is absolutely necessary, then I will try to find a way to work this change into the roadmap.
