I think this would be a great way to shrink the connector code, have more consistent
behaviors, and share much more code.

Unifying the file system repository and the path repository would reduce the amount of
code to be maintained and help establish write support in the path repository framework.
This, in turn, would benefit future path-based repositories (like a CVS repository, a
Maven repository, a JDBC storage repository (DNA-199))
