[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1030) Support multi-module Forge plugins
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1030?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds commented on FORGE-1030:
----------------------------------------
Hmm I dont think Lennart needs to reference 1.4.1-SNAPSHOT as the API version in his plugin project POM(s), unless he needs a feature in the API that is only in 1.4.1 or later.
What I meant earlier was this feature of multi-module projects needs a 1.4.1 Forge runtime so that the plugins can be installed and activated. As of now, this feature is only in the master branch, so it would have to be built from source. [This is current snapshot build|https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/service/local/artifact/maven/red...] as of today, if he like to test it out.

> It seems that Forge really needs better support for the default Maven
> development process. In repository.yaml, Forge plugins are defined by giving
> a Maven project GAV for the project holding the forge plugin definitions, as well as the GitHub repository holding the plugin source.
> Yet, Forge seems to ignore the Maven GAV information given in repository.yaml when checking out and building the plugin locally.
> This is a rather nasty bug, which in its current state effectively prevents anyone from using a multi-module build for their plugins (and it is also undocumented).

You would not be able to reference 1.4.1.Final until the release is out, unless you did a local release on your PC. If you build 1.4.1-SNAPSHOT, you'll have to reference 1.4.1-SNAPSHOT.

> # The repository.yaml includes a full Maven GAV to the project which holds Forge plugins.
> # Forge uses repository.yaml to download the source from GitHub and build it
> # Forge ignores the Maven GAV given in repository.yaml, and simply uses the root reactor project to inspect and attempt to install the plugins.
> To fix this bug, Forge needs to find the project given within the repository.yaml within the downloaded reactor and install the plugins from *that* project.

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1164) Cannot remove managed dependency
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1164?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds commented on FORGE-1164:
----------------------------------------
This command probably needs to clarify what a "managed dependency" is. The {{project remove-managed-dependency}} command works in removing dependencies managed in another Maven project/artifact (i.e. dependencies listed in the {{dependencies}} section of the current project POM but managed by a different project declared in the {{dependencyManagement}} section). The command does not work in removing the project declared in the {{dependencyManagement}} section:
{noformat}
[no project] vineet $ cd tmp/demo/
[demo] demo $ project list-
list-plugin-repositories list-facets list-repositories list-properties list-dependencies
list-managed-dependencies
[demo] demo $ project list-managed-dependencies
org.jboss.spec : jboss-javaee-6.0 : 3.0.2.Final : pom : import
[demo] demo $ project remove-
remove-plugin-repository remove-dependency remove-repository remove-facet remove-managed-dependency
remove-property
[demo] demo $ project remove-managed-dependency
[[ groupId :artifactId {:version :scope :packaging} ] (of type org.jboss.forge.project.dependencies.Dependency)]
[demo] demo $ project remove-managed-dependency org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:3.0.2.Final
Managed dependency [org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:::3.0.2.Final] not found in project...
[demo] demo $ project list-dependencies
org.hibernate.javax.persistence : hibernate-jpa-2.0-api : : jar : provided
[demo] demo $ project remove-managed-dependency org.hibernate.javax.persistence:hibernate-jpa-2.0-api
Removed managed dependency [org.hibernate.javax.persistence:hibernate-jpa-2.0-api:::]
Wrote /home/vineet/tmp/demo/pom.xml
[demo] demo $ project remove-dependency org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:3.0.2.Final:import:pom
Dependency [org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:pom::3.0.2.Final] not found in project...
{noformat}
So, this command removes an effectively managed dependency, but not the project that manages it, and nor is there any command to remove the managing project.
I'll let [~gastaldi] and [~lincolnthree] chime in with their opinions on what needs fixing here. This certainly looked confusing to me.

> I want to turn a Forge project from being Java EE 6 to Java EE 7 centric. One of these tasks is to change the dependencies in the {{pom.xml}}. So I add the {{javax:javaee-api:7.0}} to the pom and list the managed dependencies :
> {code}
> $ project list-managed-dependencies
> org.jboss.spec : jboss-javaee-6.0 : 3.0.2.Final : pom : import
> org.hibernate : hibernate-validator : 5.1.0.Alpha1 : jar : provided
> javax : javaee-api : 7.0 : jar : provided
> {code}
> If I remove the added {{javax:javaee-api:7.0}}, it works. But if I want to remove the {{org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0}}, the console says it doesn't exist :
> {code}
> $ project remove-managed-dependency org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0
> Managed dependency [org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:::] not found in project...
> {code}
> I even tried adding version, scope and so on, but it doesn't work :
> {code}
> $ project remove-managed-dependency
> ? [[ groupId :artifactId {:version :scope :packaging} ] (of type org.jboss.forge.project.dependencies.Dependency)]: org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:3.0.2.Final:pom:import
> Managed dependency [org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-6.0:import::3.0.2.Final] not found in project...
> {code}
> PS : same occur in Forge 1.3.3-Final

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1163) No @XmlRootElement on Entities
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1163?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds closed FORGE-1163.
----------------------------------
Fix Version/s: 1.4.1.Final
Resolution: Done
Pushed upstream: https://github.com/forge/core/commit/9a83522206492e33d67c74d51f24b9409259...
The annotation is added for JPA entities when they are exposed as REST resources; the original behavior is restored for this strategy.
The DTO-based strategy adds the annotation only for top-level DTOs; this needed no fixes, but additional tests were added to verify this behavior in the build.

> I generate some entities and then scaffold REST endpoints. With Forge 1.3.3-Final it works fine, the @XmlRootElement is added to the entity, but not in Forge 1.4.0-Final. So using the REST enpoint creates an exception (saying it cannot marshall the entity into XML).
