Antoine Herzog commented on GTNPORTAL-870:

Nic,
yes, the idea of an export of the config that is in the DB "as it is" could be
usefull to get the xml fragments for each things.
the idea would be to separate only on the Portal Container level.
but separation for each Portal Container does not means separation for each artifact
(extensions) that provided the final DB configuration.
so it is not really a round trip configuration tool, but yes, it could be a usefull export
tool...
after prototyping a portal (with users/designer participation), this could help a lot to
build the xml descriptor files to make the portal.
also, this could be an help to learn how to make the descriptor : make a change in the
portal with the UI admin, export the config, then see the diff in the files.
well... this have been discussed too for JBoss Portal.
don't know why it has not been made.
may be not enough interest by the developpers.
surely nobody proposed the feature as a contribution.
as far as I am concerned, I managed with descriptors written by hand, and some rare times
to go and look in the UI admin.
this for several portals, on several projects...
this way was ok.
Portal entity creation and configuration in a war file.

Key: GTNPORTAL-870
URL:
https://jira.jboss.org/browse/GTNPORTAL-870
Project: GateIn Portal
Issue Type: Feature Request
Security Level: Public(Everyone can see)
Reporter: Matt Wringe
Fix For: 4.0.0
It would be nice if we could have some simple portal/portlet configuration files that
would allow us to have similar functionality as the object.xml and portlet-instances.xml
files that JBoss Portal used to have.
This would be something more simplier than the portal extension and would allow for
things like configuring a new page with portlets on it when the portlet war gets deployed.
