I guess the workaround could be to do it one layer about the Identity API and sort it in
the UI level - still this adds a bit of overhead because you need to pull all users, sort
and re cut in pages...

It's impossible to find a user in the User Management portlet when you have a lot of
users.
For now, we display user by created date.
We should display them with priorities :
order by lastname, firstname
And without being case sensitive (very important not to have A-Z then a-z but Aa-Zz)
