If you are packaging with JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final, then you have to do packaging using
-Dversion.jboss.as=7.1.1.Final
Try packaging GateIn like this:
mvn install -Dgatein.dev=jbossas7 -DskipTests -Dservers.dir=$HOME/devel/containers
-Dserver.name=jboss-as-7.1.1.Final -Dversion.jboss.as=7.1.1.Final
Adjust server.dir / server.name appropriately.
