Nic Essling commented on GTNPORTAL-870:
---------------------------------------
I would say this is not just nice but an absolute must have! Without this feature I see
that EPP won't get much acceptance.
Reason: depending on your requirements you might end up with a lot of portals having a lot
of pages with a lot of users with potentially complex group/role relationships.
Configuring all this only via the UI will end up in an administartion nightmare. Instead
you want to properly test that on a separate system and just deploy the new configuration
(as xml files) to production. Currently you would have to wipe out your whole jcr- AND
idm-DB (see
https://jira.jboss.org/browse/GTNPORTAL-1362 for this other issue). So you
would lose all your user data in that case.
I think managing the users via the UI is fine as they are registering and are added on the
fly. Managing the pages via the UI is nice to have, but managing the pages via
configuration files and being able to do so over several releases without dumping your
data all the time is just mandatory.
Without this fix usage of EPP would be limited to small toy scenarios but it would be a
showstopper for enterprise solutions.
Hopefully this is patched as soon as possible and not just added in EPP 5.1.
Portal entity creation and configuration in a war file.

Key: GTNPORTAL-870
URL:
https://jira.jboss.org/browse/GTNPORTAL-870
Project: GateIn Portal
Issue Type: Feature Request
Security Level: Public(Everyone can see)
Reporter: Matt Wringe
Fix For: 4.0.0
It would be nice if we could have some simple portal/portlet configuration files that
would allow us to have similar functionality as the object.xml and portlet-instances.xml
files that JBoss Portal used to have.
This would be something more simplier than the portal extension and would allow for
things like configuring a new page with portlets on it when the portlet war gets deployed.
