In regards to the "multiple hits" I was specifically thinking of Oracle synonyms. I'd have to refresh my memory though on what exactly Oracle returns for DBMD#getTables for synonyms for tables. But at some level I also agree with you that trying to "be smart" here is maybe not the best route.
