Alessandro Polverini, with only the "DELETE FROM UserData d WHERE d.user = :user" query, I'm not able to reproduce (note that I had to mark the @MapKeyColumn as nullable). Is there more context that may be playing into the issue? Have you tried it on a later version?

Hibernate throws a NPE while deleting objects from an entity with a query like this one:
{code}
DELETE FROM UserData d WHERE d.user = :user
{code}

The problem is present only from hibernate 4.2.2+, while versions up to version 4.2.1 it works fine.
