The JGroups backend needs to delegate to a standard backend for normal work operation.

The current one starts and manages lifecycle of a Lucene backend as an hardcoded choice; we should make this configurable.

I'd expect most cases to still use the Lucene one by default, but for example it should be useful to configure the blackhole one to isolate performance problems in the JGroups stack from the indexing operations.
