I have revived that hibernate-dev discussion for one specific purpose... to discuss whether it makes sense to adjust the type mappings for Oracle12cDialect specifically. I agree with the conclusions in the hgibernate-dev discussion that retroactively changing the older Oracle Dialects is not a good idea.

Can you give us a specific example of when you end up with Hibernate mapping your model to a LONG or LONG RAW column?
