Chris, did you have the chance to look further into this? Seems like you identified what the issue is, but I searched a lot about Maven plugins and package-info issues and I didn't find any references. I understand this is not completely in the scope of Hibernate, but the use case of a Maven plugin to export the schema seems legit to me and currently doesn't work with Java 9 and 10.
