I hit this problem again, after several years, and was really surprised it's not fixed. "Versions prior to 5.x are no longer maintained" that helps a lot, especially if you have applications running on JBoss Application Server 7 on openshift and you cannot migrate to hibernate5. Tells a lot about how much is cared about users.
