I agree with you that it must be an Hibernate issue if it worked fine in 5.2.12.

Note that in the template, you should set the version to a version of Hibernate that fails for you as we might have fixed the issue in 5.3.x somehow.

We have 5.3.3 planned for next Thursday, it would be nice to have it fixed by then if we can have a reproducer.
