Indeed, Spring Boot does that configuration choice for the developer (and it's expected by developers), vs. "manual" configuration; but in both cases, that choice has been made in the configuration. If messages go uninterpolated in a Spring Boot app, developers will certainly question our auto-configuration choices or dependency management and certainly won't open issues here.

I like your idea of providing an accurate picture of the configuration at the DEBUG level only.
