Yes we are using Tomcat 7's jdbc-pool library quite successfully. No extra work needed in Hibernate we just point it at the DataSource created by the Tomcat JDBC library. Granted we are using Spring + Hibernate so Spring handles injecting the DataSource into Hibernate.
