When it comes to making technical decisions and deciding which vendor to go with people often look at the roadmap. In the case of Hibernate (https://github.com/hibernate/hibernate-orm/wiki/Roadmap), they have not been updated for 2 years. I have looked at the Jira issues as well, but I think it would be good to have an overview at a high level of where the project is going.
