We should enable this option by default as it has a significant performance impact.
We might want to expose this option: that needs to be discussed but I guess we'll need at least to let users configure a threadpool size.

We might want the ThreadPool being used for this to be shared across directories, or have the threadname allow identification of this task and also refer to the index name.
