There is a workaround for with a custom provider resolver and as Gunnar Morling is saying in AS you should be able to use the container provided factory.

In JBoss AS we are stuck with version 4.2.0.Final which incorporates a set of other, major bugs. I'd love a new release, but will also give the workaround a try.
