Steve, I may be forced to give BoneCP a try since we're currently using C3P0 and this is a kick in the junk. Did some quick googling around this morning and there doesn't seem to be a lot of actively developed connection pool options out there.
BoneCP dev seems to have fired up again but it looks like there's a number of people that have been running a 0.7.2-Snapshot release since the 0.7.1 rel is 1.5 years old and looks like it might have a few issues.
0.8 was recently released as a beta snapshot, still trying to track down what's in it compared to the others. However, rolling out a non final to prod would raise a few eyebrows around here I'm sure.
