Sorry yes the issue is 7u6 and up.
I ran into this when taking an ubuntu server from 7u3 to 7u9 during a normal apt-upgrade. Reindexing went from about 45 sec to 300+ and searches where noticeably slower. Moving back to 7u3 resolved the issue.
Not sure if the right step is to change something in Hibernate Search, Lucene, or wait for the JRE to be "fixed" but I wanted to get an issue here for others running into this.
