Philippe Mouawad, I know this is from 5 years ago, but...
The patch you attached isn't ideal. We still need to be able to support the use of column lengths paired with @Lobs, so we can't simply ignore the length and always use the DB default. That being said, we realize the 255 default isn't realistic either. The defaults are going to be addressed in HHH-6045, taking the column type, specified column lengths, and dialect-specific defaults into account.
For now, I'm rejecting this ticket. Expect follow-up work in HHH-6045.
