Thanks Gail for looking into it. But this issue is different from HHH-9485 Closed . Here, it happens due to an additional validation added inside AnnotationBinder.processElementAnnotations in newer versions of hibernate. And the error message is Not a single mapped property. I have added a test case to replicate the issue
