Well, my question was more to understand why you changed your schema to use GENERATED BY DEFAULT AS IDENTITY? Is there any benefit?

I'm not saying Hibernate should only support our generated schema but it cannot for sure support all possible schema changes made by the end user.

The PostgreSQL dialect is really designed to work with sequences. At least in its current form.
