I having the same problem using Hibernate 4.3.6.Final. I understand that AND has precedence to OR operator, but sometimes brackets are necessary!

As a suggestion, there should be a new configuration property to disable this mechanism. For instance:

hibernate.sql.mapper.remove.hql.brackets.enable=false
