Well considering Hibernate's behavior is (1) explicitly allowed by the spec and (2) passes the TCK... I obviously have a hard time understanding how you claim Hibernate is in any way non complaint. Now you might have an issue with the spec and how it is defined, but that's a whole other matter. But bottom line, Hibernate behaves correctly according to the spec.

All that said, yes I would like to implement support for overriding eager as lazy via a fetchgraph EntityGraph. But it is not a priority as I have already said. So unless someone (you seem very interested in this support, so...) steps up and implements it, I would not expect that before 6.0
