One of the things I find myself running into is that stuff like MessageSources can be injected easily using Springs @Configurable, but when you need to inject a Hibernate sessionFactory dependent dao/service element, it's another story. Since they are dependent on the initialization of the SessionFactory which is when Spring inserts dependencies in the classbridge and all the sessionFactory dependent stuff is not available yet. Haven't figured that one out yet.
