Regarding the "proper" solution: we could also convert our ORM modules to also become a patch. The tooling for this (and the documentation) are targeting Maven users though so it would be several days of work; not sure if it's worth it as this is hopefully temporary work until WildFly actually has the right JPA version.

I will though work on a Gradle plugin to both fetch(expand) and patch a WildFly instance just for the fun as I'm getting the hang on Gradle, also to avoid applying the same patch multiple times. Wasn't planning of making this a priority though.
