I started a discussion about doing this in 5.x on the hibernate-dev list. Yes it is a "trivial contribution" however the real concern is the addition of a new dep or the creation of a new hibernate-moneta module. Anyway, feel free to join the hibernate-dev list discussion if you feel strongly.
