In https://github.com/hibernate/hibernate-orm/commit/15ea965d202c23e1ad8477668f32518c1d2371f0 , a static logger was removed in favor of instantiating the logger dynamically.

This causes some issues in certain projects, which might be fixed in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath so let's get back to the common pattern for now so that we don't forget about it.
