I'm surprised there hasn't been more feedback on this as my research indicated that Spring is using the improved naming strategy as well so I'm not sure how those apps will work on a 4.x database if they migrate to Hibernate 5. I'm perfectly fine tweaking code to use the split class design, but don't know enough about the changes to ensure that I could replicate the old functionality completely enough to ensure that existing users are still supported
