For what it is worth Hendrik Schreiber I started a discussion about this on the hibernate-dev mailing list to see if others would like to see an option exposed to allow users to request that the order be maintained (defaulting to false, as this has performance impact). You might want to join that discussion if you feel strongly about wanting this behavior available.
