I got the previous error both (1) attempting to import into IntelliJ and (2) running compileJava

For (2), to be honest, I was uncertain - here you mention compileJava but in the project’s README you mention nativeCompile. I am not sure what nativeCompile is, but that could very well be some of the problem. I got the error either way, so I cannot verify anything.

Also, not sure if you saw https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-15558 but perhaps that is affecting you? The title is a bit misleading
