I've had a couple discussions internally with the team since I submitted my PR. Through those discussions, the overall concern was maintaining data consistency; this check is basically meant to enforce notifying users that something catastrophic has happened and by disabling it - you loose this very important check.

I'll consider trying to include this in Hibernate Envers 6.
