I guess there are no symptoms of misbehaviour, since like you said, there is no bug with IDENTITY generation.

WF could never default extended (container managed) or app managed PCs, to use Hibernate MANUAL flush mode, as I think that would break the JPA contracts for when the persistence context is joined to the JTA transaction.
