I agree it would be great.. but keep in mind that updateable fields are not a reality yet.. we might need to investigate alternatives. Adrian, I had a long conversation with Marc on the forums where I proposed many possible tricks you can apply to minimize the problem, and he kindly posted a recap of new ideas on the hibernate-dev mailing list. Have still to study them all, but yes my general impression is that we should first resolve this issue as that opens up for new opportunities.
