Re-opening this as there is still a point I'd like to think through some more before releasing. Namely, we need to enforce that the same access strategy is applied for the entire hierarchy.

Additionally wrt 6.0 and the new caching spi, we need a way to indicate to the provider that only certain entities within the hierarchy are cached (if that is important). Radim Vansa - any thoughts on this?
