Randy May Gail Badner I added a commit that proves the query works just fine with annotation mappings.

For HBM mappings, indeed it does not work. I will have to add an extra commit based on the provided PR to demonstrate it. Nevertheless, Hibernate 6.0 is moving more and more away from the legacy HBM mappings as there will be an extension to JPA XML mappings to provide an alternative to XML.

Hence, I advise everyone to move to annotations if they upgrade from 3.x to 5.x or later.
