Not sure what the specific improvement you are thinking of here is, but one thing I can see is protecting the attempted discovery with a setting. That way users that do the right thing (annotate the embeddables with @Embeddable) do not have to pay the penalty of the search. And I can even agree with making not doing the discovery the default mode (i.e. make user opt in to that discovery if they want).
