Just as a sidenote: It would be helpful if your error message "The configure limit of 1.000 object references was reached ..." contains a hint about the involved class name, cache name, whatever. I am not always working from within my development environment. If you have lots of "<cache ..> entries in your ehcache.xml it would help to get a hint where to look at.
