The idea is to have all builders prepare the per-field metadata and transformations upfront, rather than iterating the metadata at runtime.. the current approach was simple enough when we started, but over the years it became quite hard to maintain. Issues like this one should be much simpler to fix with the new design we're proposing.

We (our company) probably will have to solve this in a matter of weeks, though, so I'll work on a fix anyway, even if it can't be released.
